What is SOS Youth House?
Currently, there is one Youth House in Latvia – in Jelgava, where lives 13 adolescents.
After graduating from middle school children from SOS families are capable of moving to SOS Youth House, where they can live more independently while obtaining further education and acquiring useful life skills. Many start their first job while living in our SOS Youth House.
The life in SOS Youth House
The adolescents prepare for adulthood in the SOS Youth House: clean the house, go grocery shopping, prepare food. They have to plan their time themselves and decide on how to spend their allowance rationally. Additionally, they have to collaborate with Youth House advisors to evaluate their future opportunities regarding education and profession. The Youth House also serves as a place for the adolescents to develop their skills in resolving conflicts, overcoming stress and building friendships.
Support during the studies
some students, who live in our Youth Centres, continue studying in Riga and Jelgava after obtaining the National middle school diploma. These adolescents are provided the opportunity to live in the Youth Centre until they are 24
